Director of Special Education and Student ServicesTuckahoe Union Free School DistrictProbationary Position Start Date: July 1, 2025The Tuckahoe Union Free School District seeks a dynamic and compassionate Director of Special Education and Student Services to lead our district’s programs supporting students with disabilities and student services. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader, student-centered decision-maker, and team player who is committed to ensuring that every learner receives the support they need to succeed.Responsibilities Include:Oversee all Special Education programs and services, ensuring compliance with New York State (NYS) and federal laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).Ensure free appropriate public education (FAPE) for students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment (LRE).Supervise the Committee on Special Education (CSE), Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE), and Section 504 Committees.Develop and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with educators, families, and service providers to meet the needs of students with disabilities.Supervise all related service providers such as speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychological services, and counseling. Supervise School Nurses Ensure compliance with NYS Part 200 Regulations, ESSA, and other relevant federal and state mandates related to student services.Guide and monitor out-of-district placements when necessary and oversee relationships with BOCES, private schools, and other agencies.Lead professional development initiatives for faculty and staff on special education best practices, differentiated instruction, and inclusive education.Collaborate with families to foster strong home-school partnerships, ensuring parents/guardians are informed, involved, and empowered.Work closely with building and district administrators to ensure equity and access for all students to create a supportive, least restrictive learning environment.Manage budgets and resources related to special education and student services programs.Supervise special education teachers and support staff, and service providers, ensuring high-quality instruction and compliance with professional standards.Qualifications:NYS School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) Certification required.Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Administration, or a related field.Minimum five years of experience in special education administration; director level or above preferred.Strong knowledge of federal and NYS special education laws and regulations.Demonstrated success in collaborative problem-solving, team building, and program development.Experience in MTSS, Response to Intervention (RtI), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and trauma-informed practices.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion, empathy, and student success.Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and outside agencies.Experience managing budgets, staffing, and compliance reporting.Why Join Tuckahoe?The Tuckahoe Union Free School District is a student-centered, caring, and high-achieving district that values collaboration, innovation, and equity.
