TITLE: Director of Exceptional Education Certified Position Full-time, 12-month position Administrative Contract Exceptional Education Location: Smith School at T-S-T BOCES, Ithaca, NY DUTIES: The Director of Exceptional Education leads, directs, and evaluates all programs and services within the Exceptional Education Division, emphasizing equity and inclusion. This role involves designing and implementing programming to meet the diverse needs of students in component districts while serving as the primary spokesperson for BOCES in the area of Exceptional and Inclusive Education. The Director builds productive relationships with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and regional stakeholders and establishes processes to address regional needs in special and alternative education. Key responsibilities include supervising Building Administrators to ensure program coordination, managing budgets—including creating new ones and developing BOCES CoSers—and addressing special education space and program needs in component districts. The Director provides professional development to staff, supports state initiatives such as the Blue Ribbon Commission and Regionalization, and actively participates in state-wide special education initiatives. Additional duties may be assigned by the District Superintendent to align with organizational goals. QUALIFICATIONS: New York State School Administration Certification (SDA or SDL) is required. Demonstrated leadership in Special Education, and exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with a commitment to creating inclusive, equitable, and innovative educational environments. Demonstrated experience in budget management, program development, and supervision of administrative staff. This role requires the ability to support a wide range of stakeholders while upholding BOCES' mission and strategic priorities.
