Tiegerman is a Special Education program servicing children from preschool through grade 12. We are looking to hire Reading Specialist Teachers for our School Age Programs in the following locations: Glen Cove, NY (Elementary and Middle School)Richmond Hill, NY (High School) Woodside, NY (Elementary, Middle School & High School) The Reading Specialist Teacher provides targeted literacy instruction to students experiencing reading difficulties, using evidence-based practices and structured literacy methodologies. This position requires certification in the Wilson Reading System and experience working with students who have language-based learning challenges, including dyslexia. The teacher will deliver specialized intervention, monitor student progress, collaborate with classroom teachers, and support the school’s literacy initiatives. The Reading Specialist Teacher must hold a NYSED Certification. The Reading Specialist reports directly to the Principal. This is an exempt position.Provides individual or small-group reading intervention using the Wilson Reading System and other structured literacy programs as appropriateImplement explicit, systematic, multisensory instruction aligned with WRS principlesUse data from diagnostic assessments to plan and adjust instructionDifferentiate lessons to meet diverse learner needs and IEP accommodationsSupports the development of decoding, encoding, vocabulary, comprehension skills and fluencyConducts literacy assessments to determine student needs (e.g., decoding, phonological awareness, and spelling and their reading instructional grade levelTrack and document ongoing student performance using WRS progress monitoring tools and literacy school-based systemsCommunicates progress regularly to families, teachers, and support teamsWorks collaboratively with classroom teachers, reading specialists, and teacher assistants to support literacy goalsParticipates in data team meetings, and student support discussions as neededProvides strategies and recommendations to classroom staff to reinforce reading skills across settingsCommunicates effectively with parents regarding student performance and home support strategiesMaintains active certification in the Wilson Reading System and renewed/cutting-edge learning of literacy techniques to teach comprehension and written response to textsIncorporate Students’ IEP goals into lessonsDevelop and write preschool, lower school age and upper school age lesson plans outlining lesson objectives, expected outcomes, learning standards, supports and materialsGuide the Reading Specialist Assistant Teacher regarding student expectations and management during lessonsMonitor the performance and behavior of students continuously and adjust instruction accordinglyCommunicate and collaborate with classroom teacher to support student achievement in the subject areaOther duties assigned by AdministrationTiegerman is an EEO and AA employer
