Washington Irving Elementary School Special Education/Literacy Specialist The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns are seeking a dedicated and student-centered Elementary Special Education Academic Intervention Specialist to support students with diverse learning needs in achieving academic success. The ideal candidate is data-driven and passionate about inclusive education, skilled in differentiated instruction, and committed to helping elementary students build confidence and independence in the classroom. Key Responsibilities - Provide targeted academic intervention and specialized instruction to elementary students with different learning abilities in the classroom and resource room settings - Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with student goals and NYS learning standards, and facilitate IEP mandated reading services - Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student progress. - Conduct ongoing assessments and monitor student performance and data to adjust instructional strategies as needed. - Deliver targeted small-group and individualized instruction in literacy, mathematics, and foundational academic skills. - Maintain accurate documentation related to student progress, IEP compliance, and intervention services. - Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and growth. - Participate in CSE meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-based collaborative teams. Qualifications - Required: Valid New York State Special Education Teaching Certification and Literacy - Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. - Experience working with elementary-aged students in special education or intervention settings is preferred. - Strong understanding of differentiated instruction, behavior management, and evidence-based intervention strategies. - Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. - Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff. Preferred Skills - Bilingual (Spanish) candidates encouraged to apply - Familiarity with RTI/MTSS frameworks. - Familiarity with NYS Culturally Responsive Framework - Experience with progress monitoring tools and data-driven instruction. - Knowledge of inclusive classroom practices and social-emotional learning strategies. - Ability to support students with a range of learning, behavioral, and developmental needs. Type of Appointment: Probationary Effective: September 1, 2026 (Must attend New Teacher Orientation Meetings, dates TBD, & Superintendent’s Conference Days, August 31 st & September 1 st ) Salary and benefits as per the TAT Contract
