FLES TEACHER (Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools) EFFECTIVE: AUGUST 30, 2026 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate New York State Certification, 7-12 Certification in either Spanish, French and/or Italian w/ FLES 1-6 extension POSITION: (1) Memorial 6th Grade Center- FLES Teacher DUTIES : Candidates must demonstrate an advanced understanding of language acquisition for young learners as they are introduced to a new language and culture, and align instruction with NYS ACTFL Standards - Deliver age appropriate instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language - Use interactive methods to engage students, including songs, games, visuals, and storytelling - Create a classroom environment that encourages communication in the target language - Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including ENL students and students with IEPs - Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments - Develop lesson plans aligned with district curriculum and ACTFL standards - Use thematic units (i.e, family, weather, food, school) and incorporate technology to support language acquisition - Scaffold instruction to build proficiency over time - Provide feedback to students and communicate progress with families - Work with classroom teachers to integrate language into general education - Participate in curriculum development and vertical alignment - Attend professional development and stay updated on best practices - Organize and support cultural events - Expose students to authentic materials and experiences SALARY: As per SHTA negotiated agreement.
