INSTRUCTIONAL POSITION FLES TEACHER (FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS) EFFECTIVE: AUGUST 31, 2026 MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: NEW YORK STATE CERTIFICATION IN EITHER FRENCH, SPANISH AND/OR ITALIAN W/ FLES 1-6 EXTENSION **PREVIOUS CANDIDATES NEED NOT APPLY** POSITION: (1) Memorial 6th Grade Center- FLES Teacher DUTIES: Candidates must demonstrate an advanced understanding of language acquisition for young learners as they are introduced to a new language and culture, and align instruction with NYS ACTFL Standards Deliver age appropriate instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language Use interactive methods to engage students, including songs, games, visuals, and storytelling Create a classroom environment that encourages communication in the target language Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including ENL students and students with IEPs Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments Develop lesson plans aligned with district curriculum and ACTFL standards Use thematic units (i.e, family, weather, food, school) and incorporate technology to support language acquisition Scaffold instruction to build proficiency over time Provide feedback to students and communicate progress with families Work with classroom teachers to integrate language into general education Participate in curriculum development and vertical alignment Attend professional development and stay updated on best practices Organize and support cultural events Expose students to authentic materials and experiences SALARY: As per SHTA negotiated agreement.
