Date: June 25, 2026 Posting #: CP3035 ANNOUNCEMENT OF A VACANCY: READING TEACHER - PROBATIONARY The Smithtown Central School District is seeking a full-time probationary Reading Teacher for the secondary level. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate capable of utilizing evidence-based methods to provide targeted literacy support for students. Essential skills include proficiency in interpreting student data, conducting progress monitoring, and a comprehensive understanding of Literacy and English Language Arts standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to ongoing professional growth in the field of literacy. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: New York State certification in Literacy or Reading K-12 or 5-12 and Wilson 1 & 2 Certification. Applicants must be appropriately certified prior to the start of employment. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience in middle or high school setting. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others. Strong communication skills necessary to present information to parents, staff, and Instructional Support Teams. Comprehensive understanding of NYS English Language Arts Standards. Background in the Science of Reading, and current trends in education. Knowledge of literacy intervention programs such as UFLI, Just Words, Keys to Literacy, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, Rewards, SPIRE, etc. Experience administering and reviewing assessments such as Renaissance, Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Qualitative Spelling Inventory, Core Phonics Survey, etc. TITLE: Reading Teacher SALARY: As per STA Contract LOCATION: GHMS EFFECTIVE: 8/31/2026 APPLICATION DEADLINE: 7/9/2026 The location of the above noted vacancy is subject to change based on the needs of the district.
