South Glens Falls Central School District has an opening for an Assistant Director of Special Education (11 month Administrative position). Knowledge and experience with the Committee on Special Education, Committee on Preschool Special Education and NYS Regulations and Procedures preferred. Demonstrated ability in facilitating committee process, developing and managing policies and procedures, organizing materials and programs.Responsible to: Director of Special EducationTerms of Employment11 month positionSalary based on experience and certification pursuant to the South Glens Falls Administrators’ contractEvaluationEvaluated by the Director of Special EducationPerformance ResponsibilitiesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in the direction and management of all special education programs and services to meet student needs.Assist in the necessary time, resources and materials to support staff in the accomplishment of special education and district goals.Keep abreast of developments in special education and make decisions on staff and student issues regarding compliance and procedural safeguards. Ensure safety of students and compliance with ADA, State and Federal Regulations.Assist in conducting special education training and meetings to keep administration and district staff knowledgeable about policy changes, new programs, current best practices and other pertinent information regarding special education.Interpret policies and procedures and provide recommendations to schools concerning issues of compliance.Provide consultative services in the maintenance and confidentiality of student records.Ensure that district special education staff are in compliance with IDEA.Create and present training programs on the implementation of local, state and federal guidelines in special education including IEP development, service delivery and specially designed instruction aligned with common core standards.Design professional development and improvement plans to ensure exemplary program operations and improve student achievement.Assist the Director in working with parents to promote and encourage understanding of special education as it relates to students with special needs.Make recommendations relative to personnel placements, transfers and discipline.Work with the State Education Department to develop policies and procedures regarding issues of non- compliance.Directly supervise and be responsible for all CSE and CPSE processes and procedures.Assist the Director in personnel management of District Paraprofessionals.Performs observations for district personnel based on APPR policy and procedure.Perform additional duties as assigned.
