JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Sewanhaka Central High School District is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) New York State certified Clinical/Administrative Medical Assisting teacher for anticipated positions for the 2023-2024 school year in District’s CTE program. The candidate would teach clinical and administrative Medical Assisting as well as front end Medical Administrative Assisting to high school students in a career center setting. Duties would include the preparation of lesson plans, course outlines, and extensive hands-on instruction to prepare students for employment in medical offices, hospitals, and other health related facilities. The candidate will be expected to manage a classroom environment appropriately and be responsible for meeting each learner’s individual needs and evaluating their progress as part of record keeping duties. Technology will need to be used as part of the instruction to enhance the educational setting. Topics covered by the teacher include anatomy, physiology, nutrition, infection control, safety, medical emergencies, human anatomy, medical terminology/medical coding and the skills required to assist doctors in all phases of medicine and skills needed for medical and allied health careers. REQUIREMENTSCandidate needs to have a strong background in 21st century healthcare. One must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff, administration and parents. Also, it is essential that the candidate has the capability to use technology as both a learning and student management tool for the following skills: Conducting hearing and vision screeningsPerforming allergy tests and immunizationPreparing and administering oral and injectable medicationsAssisting in physical examsInstrument identificationCapillary punctureEKGThe ideal candidate has at least 5 years’ practical experience in the field (a minimum of 3 years is required) or is a certified Teacher of Medical Assisting with at least 3 years of teaching experience.SALARYCommensurate with the Sewanhaka Federation of Teachers collective bargaining agreement and applicant’s experience.
