This tenure track position will focus on teaching all students in grade 7 & 8 ELA. The position will begin on September 4, 2024, with two staff development days prior to the start of the school year. The overarching focus of the 7th and 8th grade ELA curriculum is on building students’ language arts skills as they develop knowledge about the world. Unit modules from EngageNY will be used to guide and focus the instruction of the Common Core curriculum for both grades. 7th grade units of study include: Journeys and Survival: Reading closely and writing to learn, Working Conditions, Working with evidence; Understanding perspectives, and Working with non-fiction articles. 8th grade units of study include: Finding Home: Refugees, Taking a Stand, Japanese-American Relations in WWII, The Civil Rights Movement, Sustainability of World’s Food Supply. During each year, normally in April or May, all students will take the ELA 7 and ELA 8 NYS assessments.
