Job Summary: The Behavior Specialist works collaboratively with staff, administrators, and families to implement effective behavior support practices. Key responsibilities include behavior observation, monitoring, consultations, and intervention planning. As the primary contact for behavior-related systems, this position collaborates with special education staff to develop and implement Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs). Additionally, the Behavior Specialist provides targeted professional development, direct student support, manages web-based behavioral resources, and advises on classroom management plans. The Behavior Specialist works under general supervision of the Director of Pupil Personnel. This behavior specialist will not only provide consultation but will work directly with students to provide behavioral interventions, coach staff in how to implement behavioral interventions, and assist with progress monitoring of BIPs. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Special Education, Behavioral Sciences, or Behavior Analysis. Experience: Three (3) years (preferred) of experience working with children/adolescents exhibiting a variety of psychiatric and/or behavioral disorders. Experience must include: Developing Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), Behavior Improvement/Intervention Plans (BIPs), and positive behavioral supports. Special Requirement: Must hold and maintain active certification as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at the time of application and throughout employment. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Student & Program Support Conduct student consultations to advise on effective behavior support practices. Design, implement, and monitor behavior interventions for students with disabilities. Maintain data tracking systems to evaluate the effectiveness of behavioral interventions for specific students and program types. Conduct classroom observations to support behavior management and instruction. Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), as well as design, implement, and monitor Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs). Oversee implementation fidelity of FBAs/BIPs, including embedding professional development for staff. District Collaboration & Reporting Serve as an active member of the Committee on Special Education (CSE) for students with behavioral concerns. Prepare and present reports for the Committee on Special Education detailing the results of FBAs and recommendations for BIPs. Coaching, Training & Professional Development Provide teacher coaching and ongoing support for classroom management. Collect and analyze district-wide behavioral data to advise on practices, interventions, data collection methods, and progress monitoring. Provide structured training to staff on positive behavioral interventions, data collection, and behavioral progress monitoring. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Educational & Systems Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of the roles of school administrators, teachers, social workers, school counselors, and psychologists in relation to school improvement. Comprehensive understanding of student/youth assessment, behavior, and classroom management systems. Thorough knowledge of the behavioral impacts of mental health issues, autism spectrum disorders, brain injuries, and developmental disabilities. Working knowledge of Education Law, Rules, and Regulations. Core Competencies: Ability to organize tasks, set priorities, and manage time effectively. Ability to build positive relationships with, relate to, and support program staff. ? Ability to train staff on behavior data collection and analysis. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to partner effectively with families to support positive behavior plans for students with disabilities.
