The Executive Director of District Improvement is a key driver of school improvement and innovation, ensuring the attention and responsiveness to New York State Accountability metrics and implementing best practices in developing and monitoring school-based systems and structures in collaboration with building administrators. This includes building districtwide capacity, center distributive leadership, promoting sustainable systems of practice, and stabilizing key instructional and organizational transitions. Additionally, this position focuses on collaborating with administrators to increase their instructional leadership capacity, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and policies. The Executive Director of District Improvement focuses on improving student outcomes by coordinating support services, leveraging community partnerships, and managing school-based resources; overseeing schools identified as CSI- Receivership under the New York State School Accountability. Key Responsibilities: Specifically, the Executive Director of District Improvement will support a team of administrators to perform the following duties and all other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent and his/her designee: • Cultivates relationships with community partners, government agencies, and non-profits to expand services in schools identified for Receivership. • Collaborate with Assistant Superintendents, Directors, and building leaders to align goals, professional learning structures, and improvement strategies. • Leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of school improvement and continuation plans. • Identify and address systemic barriers that impact coherence, stability, and instructional equity. • Develop and implement systems for data-informed decision-making that guide continuous improvement and instructional coherence. • Create structures for ongoing instructional coaching, mentoring, and leadership development. Build staff capacity around equity, instructional leadership, and continuous improvement. • Develop and implement systems for data-informed decision-making that guide continuous improvement and instructional coherence. • Ensure compliance with: State accountability frameworks, Federal requirements (Title I, Title III, IDEA, etc.), and Civil rights regulations related to equitable access. Reporting Structure: The Executive Director of School Improvement reports to the Superintendent. Key Competencies: • Thorough understanding of the New York State School Accountability system, including identification and exit criteria. • Ability to lead with integrity, build trust, and foster collaboration across departments. • Data-driven decision-making and strategic planning skills. • Excellent oral and written communication. • Strong organizational, project management, and team-building abilities. This is a management confidential position in the Schenectady City School District. SALARY: $145,000 - $155,000 commensurate with experience. LOCATION: Central Office QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL) certificate by the time of appointment with 5-8 years of management experience. Successful administrative experience in the areas of improving student outcomes and leading instructional transformation and school turnaround. Candidates with effective prior administrative experience in an urban school district with a large racially and economically diverse population are preferred. Strong background in equity-centered leadership, change management, and instructional coherence.
