Middle School & Elementary School Physical Education Teacher (Probationary)The Scarsdale School District is seeking talented, experienced, and innovative candidates for a Physical Education Teacher at both the elementary and middle schools starting August 28, 2025. Candidates must hold appropriate NYS certification, and have a demonstrated ability to teach the full physical education courses. An ideal candidate will have strong interests in wellness and interdisciplinary education and the development of the whole student. NYS certification in physical education required. We would encourage you to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of our qualifications described.Position Purpose: An ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards in Physical Education (2020), be student-centered, demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, and develop good relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. Experience in teaching skills relevant to adventure activities, dance, personal performance activities, net/wall sports, team passing sports, and target sports is preferred.Essential Functions: Plan, organize, and implement engaging physical education lessons that align with the state and district standards.Promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship through a variety of activities, including team sports, individual exercises, and wellness education.Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.Foster a safe and inclusive environment that encourages active participation and personal growth.Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school administrators to support student success.Manage and maintain gym equipment, fields, and other facilities.Uphold school policies and promote positive behaviors.Additional Duties:Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Qualifications:Bachelors' Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)Valid NY State Teacher Certification in Physical EducationPrevious teaching experience.Strong knowledge of physical fitness principles, and injury prevention techniques.Excellent communication and classroom management skills.A passion for promoting physical health and wellness in adolescents and children.FLSA Status: Exempt
