Scarsdale Public Schools is seeking a talented, experienced, and highly motivated candidate for a Supervisor of Transportation position. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the district's transportation operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services for students in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.Essential FunctionsOversee the daily operation of the school district's transportation department, including scheduling, routing, and coordination of bus fleet.Directly supervise and support a team of bus drivers, dispatchers and transportation personnel. Provide training, evaluations, and ensure adherence to district policies and procedures. Foster a positive work environment and resolve employee concerns effectively.Recruit, interview and recommend candidates for hire.Observe transportation operations in the field to determine compliance with rules, regulations and safety objectives.Ensure that all transportation activities comply with state and federal regulations, including safety standards, licensing, and inspections. Lead safety drills, monitor driver performance, and respond to incidents as needed.Develop and modify bus routes based on enrollment, safety considerations, and operational efficiency. Regularly assess and adjust routes as needed and develop contingency plans for inclement weather, delays, or emergencies.Manage transportation budget, including fuel, maintenance, and staffing. Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.In partnership with Head Bus Drivers, service as the primary liaison between the transportation department, schools, parents, and the community. Address concerns and provide timely updates on transportation issues.Collaborate with Building and Department Administration to respond to student discipline issues and special education needs.Additional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Asst. Qualifications ProfileGraduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either: (a) four (4) years of work experience where the primary function of the position was transporting individuals from one location to another (i.e., driving a school bus, bus, van, etc.) or scheduling vehicles for a transportation system, including or supplemented by two (2) years of work experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or (b) four (4) years of work experience in the transportation industry which involved risk management, safety and/or security issues, including or supplemented by two (2) years of work experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity.Education: Bachelors' Degree preferred Licenses/CertificationsValid CDL (Class B) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements preferred.Successful completion of NYSED or equivalent state-mandated training programs. FLSA Status: ExemptThis is a Competitive Class Civil Service position.
