Music Teacher - General Music and Chorus, Elementary (Full-Time, Probationary)The Scarsdale Union Free School District is seeking a talented, experienced, and innovative candidate for an elementary teaching position in General Music and Chorus. Scarsdale has five elementary schools spanning grades K-5. We offer rich and varied educational programs and are supported by an active and supportive parent community. . Candidates must hold NY State Certification in Music (K-12) and have experience in elementary general music and choral music instruction. Knowledge of and background in pedagogy, curriculum, repertoire, and performance practice are essential. The position start date is August 28, 2024. Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the school principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.Essential Functions: Develops and administers culturally responsive music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives for elementary general music and chorusPromotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning in both large ensemble and smaller class settingsParticipates in developing dynamic curricula in conjunction with district-wide music department colleaguesDemonstrates knowledge of current technologies including music software, web-based platforms, and apps used for general education needs Develops lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, instruction, rehearsal, and reflectionConducts ongoing assessment of students’ music learning and progress and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs including students with special needsConducts individual and small group instruction as neededUtilizes repertoire of varied genres as appropriate to learning goalsPlans, coordinates rehearsals for, and directs students in musical programs and performances outside of the classroomAs a reflective practitioner, continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, and professional conferences and by conducting research when appropriateOrganizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable lawsEncourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parentsEnsures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to ensure a productive learning atmosphere during class time, rehearsals, and performancesCoordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committeesSelects and requisitions appropriate music supplies and music equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working orderQualifications ProfileCertification/License: NY State Certification in Music (K-12)Education-Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in music, education, and/or related discipline applicable to this teaching assignment-Master's degree in related area preferredScarsdale Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
