Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership DevelopmentThe Scarsdale (NY) Public Schools seek a uniquely skilled educator to serve as the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development beginning on July 1, 2023. This is a senior-level position in one of the premier public school systems in the world.Scarsdale, New York lies between the Bronx and Hutchinson Rivers in the hills of south-central Westchester County, 24 miles north of New York City. Built upon a tradition of excellence, the District serves roughly 4,700 students across five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Annual expenditures in excess of $175 million support exceptional programming and an accomplished faculty and staff. Together with an active, engaged parent body, the schools foster a highly challenging yet nurturing intellectual environment while meeting the unique developmental needs of students. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools and working closely with the Board of Education and community, the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development is responsible for the supervision and direction of the District's comprehensive human resources and labor relations program and activities for all certified and classified staff.The preferred candidate will have a leadership record of significant accomplishment within a comparably demanding public service setting, and will be:A discerning thinker, comfortable with complexity and capable of charting strategic pathways through system challenges and issues.A close listener and coalition builder who creates common cause around a vision of public service sector human capital for the 21st century.A resourceful colleague within a leadership team dedicated to system stewardship.A trustworthy leader with the relational skills to engage others and sustain productive working relationships across layered roles and constituencies.A skilled writer and speaker - in varied settings and for varied purposes.POSITION DESCRIPTION:The Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development is accountable for functions that are critical to system well being. Among other responsibilities, he/she will:Organize selection processes and recruit professional and non-professional staff.Develop and implement high quality evaluation and supervisory practices that go beyond state-level mandates to satisfy community expectations.Sustain appropriate staffing standards through carefully constructed budget recommendations.Negotiate and monitor bargaining unit contracts on behalf of a productive and equitable workplace.Manage employee benefits and monitor health program metrics.Ensure compliance with state and federal reporting as well as Title IX requirements.More broadly, the successful candidate will be expected to add significant value to the District's leadership and larger educational community. New York State certification as a School District Leader is required along with an appropriate Master's degree. Doctorate preferred.
