ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESSThe Scarsdale (NY) Public Schools seeks a uniquely skilled educator to serve as Assistant Superintendent for Business beginning on July 1, 2023. This is a cabinet-level position in one of the premier public school systems in the world. Scarsdale, New York, lies between the Bronx and Hutchinson Rivers in the hills of south-central Westchester County, 24 miles north of New York City. Built upon a tradition of excellence, the District serves roughly 5,000 students across five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Annual expenditures in excess of $170 million support exceptional programming and an accomplished faculty and staff. Together with an active, engaged parent body, the schools foster a highly challenging yet nurturing intellectual environment while meeting the unique developmental needs of students. The preferred candidate will have a record of significant accomplishment within a comparably demanding public school setting. They will be:An effective steward of the District’s resources who is committed to financial transparency.A district business leader who creates financial and operational conditions that enable teachers to teach and students to learn by enhancing district and school capacity.A strategic planner able to identify, harness, and allocate resources to build a school system and a districtwide educational program that will endure.An ethical and responsible leader who effectively uses data to monitor the state of the district, identify problems, propose and support solutions, and verify accomplishments.A skilled writer, speaker, and presenter, who communicates clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences, using appropriate tools and formats to achieve clarity and address questions. Position Description:The Assistant Superintendent for Business is accountable for functions that are critical to the relationship between the District’s sound business practices and the quality education of students. Among other responsibilities, they will:Implement an effective and efficient business and financial management framework within which to operate.Demonstrate, understand, and comprehend the principles associated with school finance, budgeting, financial planning, accounting, auditing, financial reporting, cash management, investments, debt management, and technology for school business operations.Develop a long-range facility plan, and implement procedures for selection of architect, engineers, construction managers and other professionals.Demonstrate expertise in the areas of physical plant operations and planning, accountability for capital resources, administration of public investments, and operation of school lunch and transportation programs.Develop procedures for the management of school personnel and evaluate effectiveness. The successful candidate must possess, or be eligible for, New York State certification as a School District Leader, along with an appropriate Master’s degree (Doctorate preferred).
