Sayville Middle School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Music Teacher (Band Specialist) for a part-time (.6 FTE) position beginning September 1, 2026. The successful candidate will foster students’ musical growth through instrumental instruction and general music education while promoting a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. Primary Responsibilities Provide daily instrumental instruction through two band lessons per day. Teach one general music class per day aligned with district and New York State learning standards. Plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop students’ musical skills, knowledge, creativity, and appreciation. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of achievement and participation. Prepare students for school performances, concerts, and other musical events as appropriate. Collaborate with music department colleagues, classroom teachers, administrators, and families to support student success. Maintain classroom and instrumental resources in an organized and safe manner. Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture that encourages student participation, responsibility, and respect. Qualifications New York State Certification in Music (K–12) required. Demonstrated expertise in band instrument music instruction. Knowledge of middle school music curriculum and adolescent development. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, faculty, and administration. Experience directing or assisting school band programs preferred.
