Guidance Counselor – Middle School (Anticipated)Location: Sayville Middle SchoolPosition: Guidance Counselor (Probationary)Salary: As per STA contract Start Date: September 1, 2024Sayville School District is seeking a dedicated Middle School Counselor with a strong background in school counseling at the middle school level to join our Guidance Department. The ideal candidate will have middle school counselor experience. The counselor will also provide counseling support for students with diverse backgrounds, learning modalities, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and work closely with the office of Pupil Personnel Services. Responsibilities:• Supports students in making course and subject selections, as well as with evaluating school interests and choices• Obtains and disseminates information regarding occupational opportunities to students and to classes studying occupations• Establishes and maintains strong relationships with parents• Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services• Researches educational opportunities and coordinates with teachers, pupil personnel staff and administrators for the purpose of providing information and making recommendations• Assists with the registration and orientation of students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities• Implements academic and emotional guidance supports to middle school students• Works closely with PPS team and Special Education Department• Teams with students in developing educational goals• Coordinates transition services for students• Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success• NYS School Counselor Certification is required Application Process: Sayville School District is anticipating a vacancy as noted above.
