Position Title: Assistant Principal Classification: Administrative - 12 Months Salary: Administrative and Supervisory Personnel Association Immediately Responsible to: Building Leader(s) Minimum Qualifications: Required: Must possess a valid NYS Certification as a School Building Leader Philosophy aligned with District's stated Vision, Mission, and Goals Preferred: Ability to speak a second language Proven Administrative Experience Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Essential Functions: - Works as an active member of the administrative team to implement the district’s vision, mission, and goals, curriculum goals and state standards. Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and program of instruction. - Foster a culture of academic excellence, equity, student engagement, and continuous improvement. - Assist with staff scheduling, supervision assignments, student scheduling, and daily school operations. - Utilize student performance and operational data to support decision-making and school improvement efforts. - Collaborate with teachers, counselors, support staff, and families to support student academic, behavioral, social, and emotional growth. - Respond to student, staff, parent, and community concerns in a professional, timely, and solution-oriented manner. - Develops and administers school programs consistent with school district vision and mission. - Develops programs to meet our students' social emotional needs. - Collaborates with staff and administration to assist truant students. - Works with instructional staff to understand and utilize data to improve instruction. - Enforces school district policies, state laws and State Education Department guidelines. - Conducts and/or coordinates meetings and supervises other functions in the coordination of staff personnel. Meetings include, but not limited to: department meetings, full faculty meetings, team meetings, and pupil service team meetings. - Receives, reviews, and responds to complaints or problems concerning individual pupils, staff, or the operation of the school. - Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning. - Supervises extracurricular events such as concerts, awards assemblies, open house, parent teacher conferences, drama productions, dances, sporting events, etc. - Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment. - Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. - Represents the school district in professional organizations at the local, regional and state levels. - Performs such additional duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent of Schools. Evaluation: The evaluation of the person filling this position is conducted by a certified administrator according to the current Bargaining Agreement.
