Position Title: ENL/ TESOL Teacher Elementary - Probationary- (Part Time .4 ) - AnticipatedClassification: Instructional - 10 monthsContract Aligned to: Saugerties Teachers’ AssociationImmediately Responsible to: Appropriate Building Principal and Director of PPSMinimum Qualifications:Required: Must possess a valid NYS Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other LanguagesPhilosophical compatibility with the stated mission and goals of the School DistrictPreferred: Dual Certified (English Language Arts, Spanish, etc.)Second Language (preferably Spanish)Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Job Summary or Functions:Facilitating student success by collaborating with general education teachers to adapt lessons and grading. In addition, teachers will develop lessons to support student achievement in core classes with a particular focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Individuals will also be responsible for yearly assessments and progress monitoring. A key component of this position is to establish a positive relationship with the families. Specific Responsibilities:Support English Language Learners toward gaining proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing.Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.Provides support and collaborates with colleagues to foster student success at their level. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.Teaches knowledge and skills in English grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage, word denotations and connotations, creative writing, independent thinking, communication and speaking.Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions on a variety of reading materials, including the mass media, and a wide range of literature.Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.Encourages parental involvement in a student's education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.Coordinates with other professional staff members, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.Responsible for initial identification assessments. May travel to other buildings to assist.Responsible for annual English Language Proficiency Assessment.Performs such additional duties as may be assigned by Supervisors.Evaluation: The evaluation of the person filling this position is conducted by a certified administrator according to the current Bargaining Agreement and APPR plan.
