See: The Rye CommitmentPosition SummaryThe Rye High School Social Worker provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and social-emotional support to students in grades 9-12. The social worker collaborates with staff, families, and community agencies to address barriers to learning and promote students’ academic, social, and emotional development in alignment with district goals and MTSS/SEL initiatives.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStudent Support & CounselingProvide individual and small-group counseling to address social, emotional, and behavioral needs.Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention services as needed.Support students experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, peer conflict, and family-related challenges.Assist students in developing coping skills, problem-solving strategies, and self-advocacy skills.Collaboration & ConsultationCollaborate with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, school counselors, and related service providers.Participate in MTSS, CSE/504, and student support team meetings.Provide consultation to staff on student mental health and behavioral strategies.Support implementation of school-wide SEL initiatives and restorative practices.Family & Community EngagementServe as a liaison between home, school, and community agencies.Provide families with referrals to community-based services and resources.Facilitate parent meetings when appropriate to support student success.Assessment & DocumentationConduct social history evaluations as part of the CSE/504 process.Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential records in accordance with FERPA and district policies.Contribute to Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed.Crisis & Prevention ServicesRespond to student crises and provide immediate support.Participate in building crisis response planning and intervention.Assist with prevention programming related to bullying, substance use, and mental health awareness.QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.Valid state certification as a School Social Worker.Experience working with middle school students preferred.Knowledge of adolescent development, trauma-informed practices, and SEL frameworks.Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.Preferred SkillsExperience with restorative practices and DBT.Familiarity with MTSS frameworks.Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive school environment.Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.The Rye City School District is an equal opportunity employer.
