Candidates should possess a Master’s degree in school counseling or related field and NY State certification as a school counselor.Candidates should have knowledge and experience assisting middle school students in the following areas:Academic supportExecutive functioning skillsDBT Steps AConflict management and resolution skillsCareer explorationSelf-awareness and self-esteemCharacter development and bullying preventionProblem-solving and conflict resolution skillsGoal setting and decision-makingMulti-tier System of Supports (MTSS)Classroom instruction for “Developmental Lessons”504 experience and case management Additional requirements include: proven ability to build positive relationships with families, students and staff, collaborate with the district-wide school counseling department, demonstrated background in facilitating individual and small group counseling sessions, exhibit skill in handling crisis situations, and have a deep understanding of the need for specialized interventions and how to make the appropriate referrals when necessary.Candidates should be flexible, caring, and relate well with young adults.
