The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for providing quality education to students with possible physical, cognitive, and/or emotional disabilities in a secondary school setting. The candidate(s) will work closely with students, parents, and other education professionals to create and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student. Qualifications:• NYS Certification, SWD 7-12 with additional content area certifications in ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies. Math & Science content areas are preferable. • NYSed Fingerprint Clearance• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills• Ability to work collaboratively with a team of education professionals• Adaptability and willingness to learn new teaching methods• Compassionate and patient with students and families• Able to work with students from different backgrounds and who have varying abilities• Experience working in Special Education at the secondary level is preferred, but not required. Salary: Per Contract General Responsibilities: Although the specific day-to-day duties of special education teachers can vary based on where they work and their students’ ages, common daily duties include the following:• Assess students’ diverse skills and educational needs while utilizing various teaching strategies and techniques to meet those needs• Assess student progress and adjusts instruction accordingly• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance/progress, attendance, and behavior• Developing, modifying, and updating IEPs• Communicate regularly with parents, administrators, and other education professionals regarding student progress and needs• Attend and participate in staff meetings, professional development, and other school-related activities Work Schedule: M-F, 7:25am -2:35pm Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by direct supervisor and/or Superintendent.
