The Rome City School District is seeking a dedicated, student-centered, and equity-driven High School Special Education Teacher to support students with intensive academic and social-emotional needs in a 12:1:3:1 classroom setting. Key Responsibilities: Provide specialized, individualized instruction aligned with New York State learning standards and each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Develop and implement IEPs, including measurable annual goals, short-term objectives, and appropriate accommodations and modifications. Deliver instruction in core academic areas, functional academics, and/or life skills based on student needs and program design. Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions to address diverse learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Collaborate closely with teaching assistants and support staff to effectively implement instructional plans and maintain a structured classroom environment. Manage classroom behavior using positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) and individualized behavior plans when applicable. Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals, using data to inform instruction and report progress to families and the Committee on Special Education (CSE). Communicate regularly with families, service providers, and general education teachers to support student success and ensure continuity of services. Participate in CSE meetings, annual reviews, and reevaluations, providing comprehensive input on student performance and needs. Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy skills, and readiness for post-secondary education, employment, and community living. Qualifications: Must hold a valid New York State Students with Disabilities Certification. Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
