High School Special Education Earth Science TeacherThe Rome City School District is seeking a passionate and student-centered Special Education Earth Science Teacher to guide and support high school students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with a general education Earth Science teacher to create an inclusive, engaging, and accessible learning environment that fosters curiosity about the natural world, scientific thinking, and academic success.District ProfileThe Rome City School District is proud to serve over 5,200 students across nine schools, supporting a diverse mix of city, rural, and suburban communities. We are dedicated to creating a collaborative and nurturing environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.Key Responsibilities:Design and implement differentiated Earth Science instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and IEP goals.Use a variety of teaching strategies, hands-on activities, and assistive technologies to meet the needs of students with disabilities.Create a supportive, structured classroom environment that promotes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and positive behavior.Develop and adapt lesson plans that accommodate different learning styles and promote student engagement in topics such as geology, meteorology, astronomy, and environmental science.Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure student success in inclusive and self-contained settings.Monitor and document student progress through data collection, formative assessments, and IEP goal tracking.Maintain ongoing communication with families, case managers, and school personnel to support student achievement.Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning sessions.Qualifications:Must hold a valid New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12).Generalist or Science Content certification or dual certification in Earth Science 7-12 is preferred.Knowledge of differentiated instruction, IEP implementation, and behavior management techniques.Strong understanding of Earth Science content and the ability to make it accessible to diverse learners.Excellent communication, classroom management, and collaboration skills.Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environment.Why Join Us?A collaborative and innovative teaching environment.Supportive environment with access to special education resources and training.Opportunities for professional development in science education and special education best practices.Competitive salary and benefits package.How to Apply:If you're ready to inspire and support students in discovering the world around them, please submit your resume, cover letter outlining your experience and teaching philosophy, 3 letters of recommendations, transcripts, and a copy of your New York State certification or copy of your TEACH certification page.Interviews will be ongoing until a candidate is selected.
