The Rome City School District is seeking reliable and safety-minded individuals to join our team as Substitute School Security Aides. In this role, you will help ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors by monitoring school buildings and grounds, maintaining order, and protecting school property.As a Substitute Security Aide, you will work on an as-needed basis to support daily operations, including patrolling school premises, responding to incidents, enforcing school rules and applicable laws, and assisting with emergency situations. You will work under the direction of a School Security Officer and the building principal.Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a current NYS Security Guard Certification, and completion of a child abuse recognition course. All candidates must complete a fingerprint-supported background check prior to employment. Employees in this class are responsible for ensuring the safety of students and staff, directing visitors to various offices, maintaining order and protecting school property. Direct supervision is received from a School Security Officer, general supervision from a Building Principal in accordance with established policies and procedures. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Provides for the security and safety of students, all staff and agents; premises owned and operated by the Rome City School District;Patrols parking lots, being alert for unauthorized individuals and vehicles;Investigates all criminal incidents occurring on Rome City School District premises and provides the appropriate documentation for such investigations, under the direct supervision of the School Security Officers;Advises the School Security Officer and/or school administration of any circumstances or situation which may create a potential harm to persons. Or damage to, or loss of property;Acts in liaison with police and fire officials;Enforces New York State law, rules and regulations, including, but not limited to, drug laws and vehicle and traffic laws;Reports all violations of law, or regulations and school policy or school district policy to the School Security Officer and school administration;Performs such other duties as directed by the School Security Officer.FILL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:Good knowledge of crowd control and security measures in a school setting;Ability to deal effectively with a school setting;Ability to deal effectively with a school aged population and the general public;Ability to decide on an appropriate course of action;Ability to maintain order;Good interpersonal and human relations skills;Sound judgment to act in emergency situations;Maturity;Good powers of observation;Mental alertness;Reliability;Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Prior to employment, the incumbent must possess NYS Security Certification and must have completed a child abuse recognition course. Effective July 1, 2001, a fingerprint supported criminal history background check is mandatory for prospective employees of the school district, charter schools and BOCES.
