The North Rockland (Haverstraw-Stony Point) Central School District is seeking candidates for the position of Grounds Worker. This is an anticipated full-time 12-month position which include a regionally competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Cut grass using manual, power-driven or tractor-mounted mowing equipment; Grade, seed, fertilize and apply insecticides and fungicides, either manually or with tractor operated attachments; Plant and care for shrubs, trees, bulbs and flowers; Operate power-operated saws to trims hedges and small trees; Operate and maintain sprinkler systems; Sweep walkways, gutters and parking areas; Clean catch basins and collect and dispose of waste and debris; Plow, shovel and remove snow and ice and applies sand and salt to walkways and parking areas; Perform a wide variety of labor and routine maintenance tasks related to the use, operation and upkeep of parks and recreation facilities, including grounds, structures and buildings; Conduct routine preventive maintenance and perform minor mechanical repairs to tools and equipment; May perform building cleaning duties; May operate a motor vehicle on public roadways if qualified; May assist a licensed Pesticide Applicator in applying pesticides and other controlled chemicals; May operate a school bus or van on an incidental or substitute basis if appropriately trained and licensed. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of grounds maintenance methods, materials and equipment; working knowledge of terminology and practices used in basic mechanical and building maintenance; working knowledge of snow and ice removal techniques and winter maintenance procedures; working knowledge of safety practices related to the operation and maintenance of grounds equipment and power tools; ability to operate power mowers, snow blowers, saws and other powered grounds equipment; ability to use a variety of common handheld power tools; ability to read and understand simple oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: No formal education, training or experience is required. *Must possess a valid driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout the course of employment in this title.
