Health, physical education, and athletics are essential components of that mission. We are seeking a Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics who shares these values and understands that wellness, movement, teamwork, and competition are powerful tools for building confidence, resilience, empathy, and connection. This is a unique opportunity to lead and unify PK–12 physical education, health education, and interscholastic athletics within a district that prioritizes student well-being and belonging. About the Role The Director will provide visionary leadership and day-to-day oversight of: PK–12 physical education and health instruction Interscholastic athletics and extracurricular sports programs Wellness initiatives that support students’ physical, emotional, and social health The ideal candidate will be a visible, relationship-centered leader—someone who listens deeply, collaborates authentically, and leads with integrity. You will work closely with building leaders, faculty, coaches, students, families, and community partners to ensure programs are inclusive, equitable, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with district goals. You will join a district with a supportive Board of Education, dedicated educators and coaches, and a community that values student engagement, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness. Required Qualifications New York State Certification as a Teacher of Physical Education New York State School District Leader (SDL) certification Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in education (teaching, coaching, and/or administration) Demonstrated leadership experience in physical education, health education, and/or athletic administration Strong knowledge of: NYSED Physical Education and Health Education Standards New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) regulations Section 9 governance and league structures Proven ability to: Lead teams and manage complex operations Communicate clearly and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders Foster inclusive, student-centered programs that align with district mission and vision Work Year & Compensation 12-month administrative position Salary range: $125,000 – $150,000, commensurate with experience and credentials Comprehensive benefits package in accordance with district agreements Red Hook Central School District is a welcoming and diverse community of learners committed to personal growth and caring for others.
