The Red Hook Central School District is seeking applicants for a full-time School Nurse (RPN) with a start date of September 1, 2023. School Nurses are an integral part of the professional team employed to aid children and youth in developing to their full potential within the school setting. The ability to assume the responsibility of School Registered Nurses requires the knowledge and understanding of the normal growth and development, health management, and educational needs of children and adolescents. The unique combination of this role likes in the ability to provide professional health care and guidance, in addition to coordinating the resources of the school as they pertain to the total health of the students.This is a professional nursing position involving responsibility for giving care to students and performing related nursing services such as pupil health screening and notification of defects and communicable disease control requiring judgment and skills. Typical work activities: administer first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees; administer medication (standing orders and PRNs); managing students with chronic conditions; prepare and maintain health records; arrange for safe transportation of sick or injured students or employees to hospital, home, or doctor’s office in cases of emergency; order, inventory, and oversee the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment; prepare records and reports as required; prepare Incident Reports for students and staff; and other related assignments and responsibilities as requested by District Administration.Candidates must possess a good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practices and skill in their application; working knowledge of dietetics, sanitation, and personal hygiene; ability to understand and follow technical, oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to get along well with students, teachers, parents and others; ability to carry out successfully the measures prescribed; good observation; mental alertness; initiative; patience; emotional stability; sympathetic attitude toward the sick; good moral character; and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Minimum qualifications: Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the State Education Department from a course approved by such department as qualify for Registered Professional Nurse.
