RCS is looking for a dynamic Middle School Self-Contained Special Education teacher who is passionate about teaching and learning, creative and engaging in the classroom, and dedicated to providing specially-designed instruction to ensure all students' needs are met.Candidates should be innovative in practice, have a strong value in the school community, and have vision in preparing our students to be civic-minded. Successful candidates should be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families to help students reach high levels of success. Candidates must be able to adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, and social studies.Candidate will be expected to:Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plansAdapt standards-based curriculum to create lessons to meet the needs of studentsDevelop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each studentPlan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilitiesTeach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-oneImplement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progressUpdate IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goalsDiscuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administratorsParticipate in building initiatives.Run a highly structured classroom environment with clear expectations, routines, and proceduresComplete other duties that support student success QUALIFICATIONS: NYS certification SWD 5-9 or 7-12. Dually certified SWD with Content Specialist Certification preferred.
