RCS is looking for a dynamic High School Special Education teacher who is passionate about teaching and learning, creative and engaging in the classroom, and dedicated to helping all students succeed. Candidates should be innovative in practice, have a strong value in the school community, and have vision in preparing our students to be civic-minded. Successful candidates should be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families to help students reach high levels of success and must be able to adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, science and social studies.Candidate will be expected to: - Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans of students - Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student - Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities - Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one - Implement IEPs and update throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals - Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators - Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly classroom EnvironmentEngage students in the learning process and excite them about college and career possibilitiesProvide both academic and behavioral support using multi-tiered approach (ie. RTl, PBIS)Create pathways for students to be career and community aware; promoting a strong sense ofcivic responsibility.NYS Certification in the appropriate area - tenure required. Strong leadership and organizational skills are important. NYS Special Education Certification
