Job Description:The UPK-12 School Psychologist plays a crucial role in supporting the psychological well-being and academic success of students in educational settings. The UPK-12 School Psychologist will serve as a consultant and advisor to school Personnel in dealing with all matters pertaining to learning and adjustment of children- as individuals and as a group. The UPK-12 School Psychologist shall provide information both in and out of schools in promoting a better understanding of children and their needs and shall work cooperatively with other agencies to ensure the educational, social, and emotional well-being of all students. The UPK-12 School Psychologist will possess the competencies necessary for serving the psychological and educational needs of children, adolescents, and families including a high degree of cultural responsiveness, knowledge on the educational impacts of trauma, and creativity when it comes to addressing the needs of students. Reports to:Director of Student Services Work Schedule:10 months with summer days as approved by the Director of Student Services Compensation:Pay will be commensurate with education and experience per the RCTA contract. *Per the RCTA contract, School Psychologists shall receive an additional salary payment over and above their regular salary step equal to 3% of their regular salary step. This amount shall be added to their regular salary and distributed in equal amounts with their regular paychecks. Leadership Responsibilities:Lead psychological testing and interpretation, including maintaining accurate scheduling and Records, assigning and interfacing with other testers as needed, and communicating with referral sources about these matters.Collaborate with all members of the school-based teams, especially classroom teachers, to share test results and interpretations as they pertain to each child's emotional, behavioral, and academic functioning with the purpose of creating an integrated treatment approach. Collaboration includes communication with families and referral sources about each child's strengths, weaknesses, and needs.Establish and maintain positive and trusting relationships with colleagues, students, families, administrators, and the broader School Community.Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all Student Activities, achievement, and attendance as required by District procedures and applicable laws.Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and students to develop Behavior plans.Design and evaluate programs to intervene both directly and indirectly with children's academic, behavioral, and emotional problems.Provide assessment and intervention solutions as part of their role as facilitator of the school-based support team.Demonstrate knowledge of special education regulations, processes, and procedures.Consult with teachers and staff regarding student progress to determine appropriate interventions for academic, behavioral, and social emotional concerns.Collaborate with related service providers (OT, PT, speech) to screen new students to the district.Conduct psychoeducational and behavioral evaluations to determine the need for special education services and or appropriate interventions.Conduct in coordinate functional behavioral assessments and behavioral intervention plans.Provide appropriate training to classroom teachers and support staff on the implementation of Behavioral intervention plans.Assist in programs of professional development training for school Personnel to promote mental health in the classroom and to increase the competency of school Personnel in dealing with problems of learning and adjustment.Assist the director of student services and planning programs of parent education and work with the school districts PTA and school-based teams to promote a close and harmonious relationship between the school and the home.Carry out such surveys, data collections, and research projects as the Director of student services May request or approve.Assist in developing educational programs for students with disabilities and children with special needs. Use appropriate observation and evaluation techniques to diagnose learning difficulties and adjustment problems.Advise school personnel about the child's placement and program and be available for consultation and help school personnel and parents of children in the district deal more effectively with the learning difficulties of individual children.Serve as an active member of school building MTSS teams.Provide counseling and support services to students as needed and assigned.Serve as a member and the substitute chairperson for the CSE, CPSE, and 504 committees.Provide direct supervision to any Psychologist Intern, when available.Provide direct supervision to the Primary Project Grant and associated Child Associate.Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services. Required Qualifications:Current New York State Certification as a School Psychologist.Experience with special education processes, procedures and legal requirements, and a deep understanding of IEP development.
