GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:Bus Drivers transport students on an assigned route from home to school and school to home. District positions are full-time, across 10 months (September- June). Drivers can sign up to transport students for school field trips, athletic trips, and certain extra-curricular activities for additional income. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must:Be 21 years of age and possess a clean, valid Driver's License.Able to work 5:15 am to 9:00 am and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm to be available to fulfill routing needs.Be subject to fingerprinting requirements,Have a commitment to safety and reliability,Pass a background check, physical, and drug testSatisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulation of the New York State Commissioner of EducationPAY:Starting pay for applicants who currently hold a CDL class B with P and S endorsement is $25.00/hour. Applicants with prior school bus driving experience will be credited with prior years of service and will be offered a wage above the starting rate.EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)Operates a school bus on a regular schedule and on special occasions, as needed;Checks the operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip;Reports any operational defect to immediate superior;Informs children about safety practices;Maintains orderly conduct of children on bus;Keeps interior and exterior of vehicle clean and neat;Maintains records of mileage, routes, time and incidents;Prepares and maintains maps of routes and pick-up points;May be required to perform minor maintenance tasks on the vehicle.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations;Ability to operate a bus under difficult driving and road conditions;Ability to make minor repairs to the vehicle;Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions;Ability to get along well with children and command their respect;Mechanical aptitude;Mental alertness;Dependability;Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.Applicants who do not currently have a CDL class B with P and S endorsement and have all the other qualifications knowledge and skills are encouraged to apply and complete training.
