Committee on Special Education (CSE) Chairperson The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District seeks a knowledgeable, collaborative, and student-centered educational leader to serve as Committee on Special Education (CSE) Chairperson. The successful candidate will provide leadership in the implementation of special education programs and services, ensuring compliance with federal and New York State laws and regulations while promoting inclusive educational opportunities and positive outcomes for students with disabilities. Required Qualifications - Prior experience serving as a Committee on Special Education (CSE) Chairperson. - Demonstrated knowledge of NYS Part 200 Regulations, Committee on Special Education procedures, and eligibility requirements. - Demonstrated knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and its implementation in public schools. - Strong knowledge of special education law, due process requirements, and procedural safeguards. - Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative leadership skills. - Knowledge of, or experience implementing, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), pre-referral intervention processes, and data-based decision making. Preferred Certifications - New York State Special Education certification; and/ or as School Psychologist or School Social Worker. Primary Responsibilities The CSE Chairperson will provide leadership and oversight of the District's special education processes by: - Chairing Committee on Special Education (CSE), and Section 504 meetings, as assigned. - Ensuring that all evaluations, eligibility determinations, individualized education programs (IEPs), and Section 504 Plans are developed in compliance with federal and New York State requirements. - Coordination of Alternate Assessment. - Interpreting evaluation data and facilitating collaborative decision-making among families, school personnel, and related service providers. - Ensuring compliance with NYS Part 200 Regulations, IDEA, Section 504, and applicable guidance. - Collaborating with principals, instructional leaders, psychologists, counselors, teachers, and related service providers to support the implementation of students' IEPs and 504 Plans. - Monitoring timelines for referrals, evaluations, annual reviews, reevaluations, and mandated reporting requirements. - Supporting the development of inclusive educational practices and least restrictive environment (LRE) opportunities. - Assisting families in understanding special education processes, procedural safeguards, and available supports. - Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with State reporting and documentation requirements. - Participating in professional learning and providing guidance to staff regarding special education regulations, instructional practices, and legal requirements.
