ANTICIPATED OPENING: CHEMISTRY TEACHER (PROBATIONARY) 2026-2027 The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District’s Science Department is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join our team. As a key member of our educational community this position will provide an opportunity to inspire and engage students in chemistry while fostering a positive and culturally responsive environment. Responsibilities: - Develop and implement standards-aligned lesson plans based on the New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) that address diverse learning styles and student needs. - Design and facilitate inquiry based, student centered learning experiences that engage students in scientific practices, crosscutting concepts, engineering principles, and core chemistry content. - Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement, collaboration, and cultural responsiveness. - Utilize high-leverage instructional strategies, differentiation, and formative assessment to support scientific literacy and critical thinking. - Establish and maintain open, professional communication with students, families, and colleagues. - Implement and enforce laboratory safety protocols, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and equipment. - Integrate technology and data analysis tools to enhance instruction and student learning in science. Key Qualifications: - Demonstrated passion for teaching chemistry and supporting student success. - Strong knowledge of NYSSLS and three-dimensional learning, including science and engineering practices, disciplinary core ideas, and crosscutting concepts. - Experience integrating science and engineering practices, disciplinary core ideas, and crosscutting concepts. - Experience designing inquiry-based and lab-centered instruction. - Ability to Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive classroom practices. - Experience collaborating within professional learning communities and interdisciplinary teams. - Effective use of instructional technology, including emerging tools such as artificial intelligence, to enhance learning. - Strong organizational, communication, and relationship building skills, including social-emotional learning practices. Requirements: - Valid New York State teaching certification in both Chemistry 7-12 is required. - Dual certification in another science would be preferred but not required.
