Anticipated Opening: Middle School Science Teacher- Probationary (2026-2027) The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Science Department is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and collaborative educator to join our middle school science team. The successful candidate will inspire and engage students in scientific thinking, inquiry, and problem solving while fostering a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment. Key Qualifications: - Demonstrated passion for teaching middle school science and supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of adolescent learners. - Strong knowledge of NYSSLS and three-dimensional learning, including science and engineering practices, disciplinary core ideas, and crosscutting concepts. - Experience designing inquiry-based, phenomenon-driven, and lab-centered instruction that promotes student engagement and scientific reasoning. - Commitment to culturally responsive teaching, inclusive classroom practices, and high expectations for all learners. - Ability to use assessment evidence to monitor student progress, adjust instruction, and support student growth over time. - Experience collaborating within professional learning communities, grade-level teams, and interdisciplinary teams. - Effective use of instructional technology, including emerging tools such as artificial intelligence, to enhance teaching and learning. - Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills. - Experience or demonstrated readiness to teach 7th and 8th grade science in a middle school setting. Requirements: - Valid NYS teaching certification appropriate for Middle School Science Required - Dual certification in another science area is preferred but not required. - Additional certification in Earth and Space Science is a plus.
