Director of Committee of Special Education & Mental Health (11 Month position)Reports to the Executive Director of Special Education, Mental Health & Support ServicesStart date: On or about September 30, 2024, 2024The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to serve as the Director of the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Mental Health Services. This leadership role demands a licensed psychologist with a valid NYS School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional knowledge of CSE procedures and NYS laws and regulations, along the outstanding administrative, organizational, and communication skills.Key Responsibilities:- Supervise the CSE Chairpeople, Mental Health Providers (Psychologists, Social Workers, Behaviorists, & Mental Health Interventionists) and services within the district.- Chair CPSE/CSE meetings and ensure they are conducted in compliance with state and federal regulations.- Ensure that IEPs developed by the CSE provide students with disabilities access, participation, and progress in the general education curriculum and address their other disability needs.- Assist the Executive Director in developing and implementing a POB Profile of a Learner to guide the work of the CSE.- Secure outside organizations to support the mental health and social-emotional health of all students.- Work collaboratively with Assistant Directors of Special Education and Related Services.- Oversee comprehensive individual evaluations of students in all areas of suspected disability.- Ensure sufficient information is obtained regarding students’ response to instruction in the general education environment.- Facilitate the consideration and discussion of all evaluation and prereferral information at CSE meetings.- Provide information about the general education curriculum, context, services, and assessments to support meaningful decision-making.- Understand and consider the unique nature of each student's disability in making recommendations.- Educate and guide CPSE/CSE members on the Committee process, expectations, and their roles, including the information they are expected to bring to discussions.- Incorporate parents’ concerns and students’ strengths, preferences, and interests into the IEP development.- Maintain regular communication with building administration.- Build consensus among various stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and administrators, to support student success.- Secure professional development for administrators, faculty, staff, and families on topics related to their roles in the CSE and IEP implementation and/or mental health and wellness topics. Qualifications: - Commitment to the Core Values of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. - Licensed school psychologist with a valid NYS School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification required.- Minimum of 5 years of experience chairing CSE meetings.- Administrative experience in a school setting.- Full understanding of MTSS and the continuum of services for special education students.- Proven track record of building consensus among various stakeholders.- Exceptional knowledge of CSE procedures and NYS laws and regulations.- Strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills.- Ability to analyze data to inform processes and practices.Salary: $170,000-$180,000 (commensurate with experience)Deadline: Wednesday, August 14, 2024
