Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates an opening for a Registered Nurse for the Career & Technical Center. The School Nurse provides nursing assessments, triage, first aid, and emergency care for students and staff. Administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, district policies, and applicable state regulations. Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Health Care Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans for students with identified medical needs, as well as managing care for students with chronic health conditions, including but not limited to asthma, diabetes, allergies, and seizure disorders.Conducts and documents all mandated health screenings and maintains accurate, up-to-date student health records. Ensures compliance with immunization requirements and communicable disease protocols and collaborates with school staff, families, healthcare providers, and multidisciplinary teams to support student health, safety, and attendance. Promotes health education, wellness initiatives, and preventive care within the school community, participates in emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response activities, and maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA (as applicable), and district policies. Students enrolled in CTE programs may be exposed to increased risk for minor to serious injuries, including cuts, burns, eye injuries, musculoskeletal strains, and chemical exposures. The School Nurse plays a critical role in assessing injuries and responding to emergencies.QUALIFICATIONS:Must hold valid NYS RN Licensure, current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications; have the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other nursing and instructional staff; possess top notch oral and written skills and strong attention to detail; be willing to take responsibility for students well being.CHARACTERISTICS DESIRED:The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, assessment, and documentation skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced school environment. Possesses excellent communication and collaboration skills and is able to work productively with adolescents, families, school staff, and multidisciplinary teams. The candidate must remain calm, organized, and confident in emergency situations and demonstrate effective problem-solving abilities. Previous experience working with complex medical conditions, including cardiac conditions, shunts, and baclofen pumps, is highly desirable. The successful candidate is highly organized, flexible, and team-oriented, with a positive, solution-focused, “can do” attitude and the ability to respond to the dynamic needs of a school day.
