Duties: Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES is seeking a Leave Replacement Special Education Teacher to provide instruction to students in our Walden Collaborative Language Academic and Social Skills (CLASS) Program. Duties will include but are not limited to developing and implementing IEPs, monitoring and assessing student progress, differentiating instruction per student needs and working in a collaborative team setting. The successful candidate will also maintain regular contact with local school district representatives and parents, perform educational assessments as requested and utilize data to inform instruction. CLASS is a program for students with autism, communication disorders and other pervasive developmental disorders. CLASS offers intensive and individualized instruction and related services to students ages 5 through 21 utilizing a TEACCH model and the STAR/LINKS curriculum for ASD. Each class has a certified special education teacher and a teaching assistant or teacher’s aide in addition to a collaborating half-time speech language therapist.Qualifications: Appropriate New York State Education Department certification in Special Education K-12 or Students with Disabilities.Characteristics Desired: Ability to supervise classroom team. Experience working with students with multiple disabilities. Experience working collaboratively with therapists and clinicians. Knowledge of the annual review process. Candidates must be organized, flexible, and have effective written communication and problem-solving skills. Successful candidates must have a positive, can-do attitude and be committed to the BOCES Mission of Service and Innovation through Partnership.
