The following full-time position is anticipated for the 2026–27 school year, effective September 1, 2026. Secondary Music Teacher (Band) / Marching Band Director The Port Chester Public Schools seek a motivated, dynamic, and student-centered educator to serve as a Secondary Music Teacher (Band) and Marching Band Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality instrumental music instruction to secondary students while leading and growing a comprehensive marching band program that reflects pride, excellence, and community engagement. Candidates with demonstrated experience as both a band teacher and marching band director are strongly encouraged to apply. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develops and implements engaging instructional programs for secondary band students that promote musical growth, technical proficiency, and artistic expression. Provides differentiated individual, small-group, and full ensemble instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of secondary students. Directs and instructs secondary concert bands, ensembles, sectionals, and other instrumental music groups. Plans, coordinates, and conducts concerts, performances, festivals, competitions, and other music-related events. Serves as the Marching Band Director, including the planning, organization, instruction, coordination, and supervision of all marching band rehearsals, performances, competitions, and related activities. Develops and implements marching band curriculum, drill design, performance preparation, and student leadership opportunities. Recruits, retains, and supports student participation in secondary band and marching band programs. Collaborates with school administrators, faculty, families, and community organizations to promote and strengthen the district’s secondary instrumental music program. Manages and maintains the inventory of instruments, uniforms, equipment, music library resources, and other program materials. Establishes and maintains a positive learning environment and effective classroom management practices that support student success. Evaluates student progress and maintains accurate records related to student achievement and participation. Communicates effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding student progress, expectations, performances, and program activities. Attends parent conferences and school events as required. Identifies student needs and collaborates with counselors, administrators, and other professional staff members to support student growth and success. Maintains professional competence through district-provided professional development, professional organizations, workshops, and graduate coursework. Participates cooperatively in the district’s observation and evaluation process in accordance with district guidelines. Assists in the continued growth and enhancement of the district’s secondary instrumental music and marching band programs. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED The position requires: Current New York State Certification in Music (All Grades). Demonstrated experience teaching instrumental music and band at the secondary level. Demonstrated experience serving as a marching band director, assistant marching band director, or in a comparable leadership role within a marching band program. Experience planning, organizing, and directing marching band rehearsals, performances, competitions, and related activities. Strong knowledge of instrumental music pedagogy, ensemble instruction, and marching band program development. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Commitment to fostering student engagement, achievement, and participation in instrumental music programs.
