Summary The Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District is seeking a motivated and dynamic Special Education teacher to serve as a Consultant Teacher (CT) at the Middle School level. This role is essential for implementing the district's CT model, providing mandated IEP services to support students with disabilities within the general education environment. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with staff to ensure all students feel supported and can effectively access the standard curriculum. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct and Indirect Services: Provide mandated Direct and Indirect Consultant Teacher services as specified in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Indirect services include consulting with general education teachers to assist in adjusting the learning environment and modifying instructional methods. Collaboration: Partner with general education teachers during grade-level Common Planning Time (CPT) to foster a productive environment and establish a common understanding of the CT model. IEP-Aligned Instruction: Develop and implement instructional materials and strategies that align with IEP program goals, design, and expected outcomes. Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators regarding student progress, academic needs, and social-emotional growth. Evaluation and Records: Evaluate student performance, maintain accurate records of services provided, and assist in the development and review of IEPs. Professional Engagement: Attend department meetings and participate in professional development sessions to establish best practices for the CT model. Qualifications Required Current New York State (NYS) certification in Special Education (appropriate for middle school grades). Thorough knowledge of NYSED Commissioner’s Regulations Part 200 regarding the education of students with disabilities. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, and colleagues. Commitment to equity and closing the achievement gap for all students.
