Description:The Port Chester School District is seeking a highly compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Special Education Teaching Assistant to provide direct support to an elementary-aged student and assist the classroom teacher in creating a positive and effective learning environment for students with diverse special needs.Responsibilities:Provide one-on-one and small-group support to an elementary-aged student with special needs, with a focus on students on the autism spectrum.Assist in the implementation of the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) mandates and accommodations.Effectively implement and follow the student's Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), including proactive strategies and de-escalation techniques.Effectively gather, record, and monitor data on the student’s BIP.Display a strong ability to manage and de-escalate student outbursts or challenging behaviors in a calm and consistent manner.Support the student's academic and social-emotional development throughout the school day.Collaborate and communicate effectively with the classroom teacher, special education staff, and other members of the student's educational team.Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and support provided.Qualifications:Appropriate Teaching Assistant Certification (required).Demonstrated experience working with students with various special needs, with a strong preference for experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).Proven ability to implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and manage student behavior in a structured and compassionate way.Must be a compassionate, understanding, and patient individual with a commitment to supporting the success of every student.Experience in a special education setting or with special education curriculum is highly recommended.Knowledge of elementary-level curriculum and instructional strategies is a plus.
