Position Overview:The Roosevelt Elementary Assistant Principal serves as a dynamic, innovative leader committed to fostering a student-centered and teacher-supported learning environment of approximately 400 5th grade students. This individual will support the Principal in guiding the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of all students. The Assistant Principal will work collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, and families to ensure an environment that promotes high academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and positive student behavior/leadership. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, a passion for education, and a commitment to implementing cutting-edge strategies to address both instructional and behavioral/SEL needs.Key Responsibilities:Instructional Leadership:Support the Principal in implementing a rigorous and engaging curriculum aligned with state standards.Collaborate with teachers to design and deliver professional development that enhances instructional practices with a lens on MLLs and SWDs.Assist in the assessment and analysis of student data to drive instructional decisions and interventions through MTSS.Promote the use of innovative teaching strategies and technology to create a forward-thinking learning environment.Foster a culture of continuous improvement, where both students and staff are encouraged to take risks and learn from challenges.Student-Centered Focus:Ensure the academic, emotional, and social development of every student by implementing differentiated instructional strategies.Lead efforts to create personalized learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of all students.Promote a positive school climate through programs that support social-emotional learning (SEL) and student well-being.Collaborate with clinicians, teachers, support staff and families to develop individualized plans for students who need additional support.Actively engage with students in a variety of settings, including classrooms, extracurricular activities and clubs, and school events.Student Support and Development:Lead initiatives that promote positive behavior and school-wide expectations.Develop and implement a consistent and fair approach to managing student behavior, ensuring a safe and respectful school environment.Oversee the development and implementation of restorative practices and interventions for students with behavioral challenges.Work closely with staff to ensure that behavioral expectations are clear, consistent, and restorative in nature.Act as a resource for teachers in managing classroom behavior and creating inclusive learning spaces.Collaboration and Communication:Foster positive relationships with families, staff, and the community to ensure a strong partnership in supporting student success.Assist in the development and communication of school-wide policies and procedures.Represent the school at community events and engage in activities that promote school involvement and support.Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, school events, and important initiatives.Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to school-wide decision-making and strategic planning.Operational Leadership:Assist in the management of daily school operations, including supervision of staff and students.Support the Principal in managing budgets, schedules, and resources effectively to support student learning and school activities.Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and federal guidelines.Lead the development and execution of emergency response protocols and safety plans.Support scheduling in the school for OSS staff and Teacher Coverage Plan, implement, and provide ongoing professional development and feedback to all staff, focusing on building positive student relationships, student culture, and classroom community.Participate in the TA, Monitor, Sub and Teacher recruitment and hiring process, in collaboration with the Principal.Qualifications:Experience as an educator as well as leadership rolesStrong commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a culturally responsive school environment.Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, staff, and community members.Valid administrative certification or equivalent, as required by New York StateBilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.School Building Leader certification required.
