Anne M. Dorner Middle School is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Assistant Principal to join our leadership team and support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success of our diverse student body. With approximately 1,000 students, our middle school is a vibrant community committed to excellence and equity in education.Position OverviewThe Assistant Principal will provide leadership and oversight for a single grade level, following the assigned cohort as they progress from 6th through 8th grade. This unique model fosters meaningful relationships, continuity, and consistency in supporting students, families, and staff. The Assistant Principal will collaborate closely with a dedicated team of professionals, including a school psychologist, counselor, and social worker, as well as other Assistant Principals and the Principal, to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Support and DevelopmentOversee the academic progress, behavior, and social-emotional well-being of a single grade level.Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that supports student success and celebrates diversity.Collaborate with the grade-level support team (school psychologist, counselor, and social worker) to implement proactive interventions and individualized support for students.Staff Collaboration and SupervisionSupervise and support grade-level teachers and staff, providing feedback to enhance instructional practices and promote professional growth.Facilitate regular team meetings with grade-level staff to review data, address challenges, and celebrate successes.Serve as a resource for staff in implementing strategies for classroom management and differentiated Tier 1 instruction.Family and Community EngagementBuild strong partnerships with families to support student learning and development.Communicate regularly with families regarding grade-level initiatives, expectations, and individual student progress.Represent the school at community events and serve as a liaison between families and the school.Operational LeadershipOversee grade-level schedules, activities, and events, ensuring alignment with schoolwide goals and priorities.Collaborate with the administrative team to implement school policies, procedures, and initiatives.Contribute to the development of a comprehensive school improvement plan.Discipline and Restorative PracticesMonitor and address student behavior in alignment with the school’s discipline policies and restorative practices framework.Lead efforts to promote positive behavior and resolve conflicts constructively within the assigned grade.QualificationsValid administrative certification or equivalent, as required by New York State Proven experience as an educator and/or administrator, preferably at the middle school level.Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a culturally responsive school environment.Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, staff, and community members.A passion for middle school education and a commitment to supporting adolescent development.Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.Why Join Anne M.
