Oneonta City School DistrictSchool Secretary- 12 Month PositionEffective Date: ASAPDISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves the performance of a variety of secretarial duties in the office of a School Principal and/or Director. The incumbent is required to perform typing, clerical and receptionist duties and may be required to take and transcribe dictation depending on the location of the position. This position involves independent judgment exercised by the incumbents and the more diversified nature of tasks. Work is performed under the general or direct supervision of a School Principal and/or Director. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in the application of prescribed policies and procedures, methods and order of tasks. Does related work as required. Minimum Requirements:a. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of clerical or secretarial experience; orb. Four (4) years of experience as a described in above; oran equivalent combination of training and experience as described above. Note: Vacancies are filled by a certified list provided by the City of Oneonta Civil Service Commission. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for the City of Oneonta to obtain a permanent appointment.
