Job Summary:The Elementary Literacy Coach will support high-quality literacy instruction across grades K–5 (three elementary schools) by providing job-embedded professional development, instructional modeling, and data-informed guidance to classroom teachers. This role is instrumental in building teacher capacity to improve literacy outcomes for all students. The ideal candidate is a New York State certified literacy professional with a strong understanding of current best practices in reading and writing instruction.Location:Liberty Elementary School, Valley Cottage Elementary School, & Upper Nyack Elementary SchoolKey Responsibilities:Instructional Support & ModelingDemonstrate effective, research-based literacy instruction in classrooms across grades K–5.Co-teach lessons and provide feedback to teachers to strengthen instructional practices.Support implementation of district-adopted literacy curricula, interventions, and instructional resources.Facilitate lesson planning that aligns with NYS Next Generation ELA Standards.Professional DevelopmentDesign and deliver professional learning sessions focused on literacy instruction, assessment, and intervention.Serve as a coach and mentor to teachers by engaging in reflective practice and instructional conversations.Stay current with literacy research and disseminate relevant findings to staff.Data Analysis & Instructional Decision-MakingBe a member of the District-wide Data Team (MTSS)Collaborate with teachers and administrators to analyze student literacy data (screeners, benchmark assessments, classroom performance, etc.).Assist in identifying student learning needs and monitor the effectiveness of interventions and strategies.Support data-driven instructional planning and progress monitoring at classroom and school levels.Collaboration & LeadershipPartner with school leaders, interventionists, and special education staff to promote equity and literacy growth for all learners.Lead or participate in school- and district-level literacy teams or committees.Contribute to the development of literacy goals and action plans within the school improvement framework.Qualifications:Valid New York State Certification (Literacy Birth–Grade 6 or equivalent)Master’s Degree in Literacy, Reading, Curriculum & Instruction, or related fieldPrior coaching, mentoring, or adult facilitation experienceMinimum of 5 or more years of successful teaching experience in elementary educationFamiliarity with structured literacy approaches, Science of Reading, or multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS)Demonstrated expertise in literacy instruction, including foundational reading skills, writing instruction, and intervention strategiesKnowledge of culturally responsive teaching and inclusive literacy practicesStrong communication, collaboration, and leadership skillsExperience with data-informed instruction and assessment tools (e.g., DIBELS, AIMSWeb, Star, F&P, NWEA)Attend Board of Education meetings as requested
