Job Title: PBIS Coach – Elementary School Reports to: Principal Location: Nyack Public Schools Position Type: Full-TimeJob Summary: The PBIS Coach facilitates the implementation of a school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework aligned with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This role works in close partnership with the principal, staff, and district leadership to foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment. The PBIS Coach leads and models evidence-based practices that promote positive student behavior, support social-emotional development, and improve school climate. The coach plays a critical role in analyzing student data, designing tiered interventions, and ensuring consistent, equity-centered implementation of supports across the school.Key Responsibilities:Leadership & Collaboration:Partner with the school principal and leadership team to align PBIS practices with school improvement goals and student needs.Serve as a key member of the MTSS team, supporting the integration of behavioral, academic, and social-emotional supports.Facilitate regular PBIS team meetings and ensure fidelity of implementation using tools like the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI).Support the development, communication, and modeling of school-wide behavior expectations and routines.Coaching & Capacity Building:Provide ongoing coaching and professional development for staff on PBIS strategies, trauma-informed practices, culturally responsive interventions, and MTSS alignment.Support teachers and support staff in implementing classroom-based behavior supports and managing challenging behaviors.Develop and distribute materials such as behavior matrices, lesson plans, reinforcement systems, and family outreach resources.Data-Informed Practice:Collect, organize, and analyze behavioral and attendance data (e.g., office discipline referrals, check-in/check-out reports) to identify trends and support timely interventions.Assist with the identification and implementation of Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavioral supports, including small group interventions, functional behavior assessments (FBAs), and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).Monitor and evaluate student response to behavioral interventions and support data-driven decision making.Student & Family Support:Collaborate with the principal, counselor, social worker, and intervention teams to ensure comprehensive support for students.Promote proactive engagement of families in PBIS efforts through communication, workshops, and events.Advocate for equitable access to behavioral supports for all students, especially those disproportionately impacted by discipline.Qualifications:Required:Previous experience with MTSS/PBIS implementation and coaching. Certification as a School Psychologist, School Counselor, or Social Worker preferredBCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) License, a plus Minimum of 5 years of school-based experience, in an elementary settingSkills and Competencies:Deep understanding of PBIS and MTSS frameworksKnowledge of behavioral data collection and interpretationStrong coaching and facilitation skills for adult learnersEffective communication and collaboration across stakeholder groupsAbility to design and adapt interventions to meet individual and group needsFamiliarity with restorative practices, SEL frameworks, and trauma-informed careEquity-focused and culturally responsive mindset
