Position Overview:Nyack Middle School is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly organized special education teacher to lead our CHOICE program-a self-contained class designed to meet the academic, social, and functional needs of students on a life skills pathway. The ideal candidate will bring a studentĀ centered mindset and a strong understanding of differentiated instruction, while fostering independence and building confidence in each learner.Program Description:The CHOICE Program supports middle school students who require a highly structured environment, specialized instruction, and a modified curriculum aligned with functional academics and daily living skills. Many students in the program are net working toward a traditional Regents diploma and benefit from individualized, real-world learning experiences and social-emotional supports.Primary Responsibilities: Provide individualized and small-group instruction in core content areas using modified curricula aligned to IEP goals.Develop and implement IEPs in collaboration with the CSE, related service providers, and families. Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture that promotes independence, communication, and social-emotional growth.Collaborate regularly with the clinical staff, teaching assistants as appropriate.Implement proactive behavior management strategies and individualized behavior supports; track data and adjust plans as needed in collaboration with related service staff.Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and data collection aligned with IEP mandates.Support transition planning and life skills instruction that prepares students for high school programs, vocational opportunities, or other appropriate next steps.Participate in parent meetings, team meetings, and professional development related to specialized instruction and behavioral support strategies.Qualifications: NY State Certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6 or 5- 9 preferred).Experience with students with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or significant learning needs.
