City School District of New Rochelle Embracing Diversity: Driving Success The City School District of New Rochelle is seeking a Middle School Library Media Specialist Grades 6-8 (Full-Time, Probationary, Tenure-Track). Responsibilities: Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered library environment that supports the academic, social, and cultural needs of all learners. Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons that integrate research skills, digital citizenship, information literacy, media literacy, critical thinking, and inquiry-based learning. Inspire a lifelong love of reading by promoting literacy, supporting independent reading, and assisting students in selecting appropriate literature and research resources. Guide students and staff in the effective and ethical use of information, databases, online resources, instructional technology, and emerging digital tools. Manage the daily operation of the library/media center, including circulation, cataloging, inventory, scheduling, and the maintenance of accurate records and reports. Curate, evaluate, and maintain a diverse, inclusive, and current collection of print and digital resources that supports the curriculum while reflecting the rich diversity of the New Rochelle community and the broader global society. Utilize library management systems and technology inventory software to efficiently track library materials and instructional technology assets. Develop and manage the library budget to support instructional priorities, collection development, and the continued growth of a library program that is responsive to the needs and diversity of the school community. Remain current with best practices and emerging trends in library science, literacy, educational technology, and instructional design through ongoing professional learning. Participate actively in school and district initiatives, professional development, and collaborative learning communities. Teach a middle school research and/or library media literacy course, providing direct instruction in information literacy, research methodology, media literacy, digital citizenship, source evaluation, ethical use of information, and responsible engagement with digital media. Advocate for a dynamic, innovative library media program that serves as a vital instructional resource and collaborative learning hub for the entire school community. NYS Certification is required at time of application - Valid New York State Library Media Specialist/Librarian Certification (required).
